Personality

With confidence to match their size, you'd be pressed to find a time they let anyone get the best of them.
Life is a competition and they want to be the winner. Never one to refuse a challenge, they relish in the pursuit of victory and battle of wills therein.
Having been raised at sea, Bryn is welcoming to most, but time and travel have made them reluctant to trust.
A lifetime of working with their hands has produced a practical and inquisitive mechanic. Just don't ask them to explain anything they're doing.

Hooks

Gear Head: Bryn is the owner of The Nomad's Hammer, a mechanical engineering workshop located in the Lower Decks of Limsa, where they repair just about anything that comes through the door. Anything.
What does this button do?: Ever curious about the inner workings of the world, they tend to put that desire for insight above other priorities. The best way to convince them to do something is to give them a problem to solve.
Meet in a Tavern: Who's that showing off a wicked scar at the bar? Or talking the bartenders ear off about their favorite type of lug nut? Oh, its Bryn again, of course! They believe there's no way better to make first impressions than with a drink.
Pissing Contest: A penchant for the antagonistic and a bit blockheaded, Bryn can turn anything into a competition, but win or lose they'll make sure to leave a lasting impression.

History

Bryn's oldest memories are of the scorching sun and brackish sea. No one ever found the remaining passengers, but when the crew of The Nomad stumbled across a young Roegadyn child, stranded at sea amidst the remnants of a shipwreck, they were trawled up along with whatever valuables were left behind. It was not uncommon in the Northern Sea to come across ships met with a grisly end, but such a young child could not be bargained with for passage or ransomed off to relatives they did not have. So they were taken in amongst the smugglers and sailors of The Nomad to be dealt with.Of course a ships patronage only goes so far, Bryn would have to earn their keep. The Nomad sailed far and wide across Hydaelyn and hired crew from many different places and peoples alike. This crew, with its many different skills and views, not only taught them the necessary skills for a crew member--sailing, cooking, wound tending, but eventually considered them one of their own.The most important lesson was combat. They were decent enough at swordplay, so much as they could never get the steps quite correct, but what truly peaked their interest was guns, cannons, all the mechanisms that let the ship maneuver, and anything that ticked, clanged, or exploded. How they functioned and all the components worked in tandem to create a desired effect. Almost like living, breathing things.Everything from weapons, to vehicles, to odd technologies with unknown functions were moved across the sea by The Nomad over the years, giving Bryn ample opportunity to learn all they could from the smuggled cargo. And so, in time, they became an experienced crew member of the Nomad and a competent mechanic in their own right.Years passed and as they grew their urge to break, build, and learn grew with them--like an insatiable thirst even the freshest water could not quench. But life could not stay so idyllic for long. Ultimately The Nomad was attacked and nearly destroyed, bereft of most of her crew and of a captain, a woman who had grown into a sort of mother to Bryn. With a family and purpose lost they ventured out to pursue adventure and fortune, finding both in spades amongst the many mercenary companies of Eorzea. Selling her strength in combat and knowledge of firearms and vehicles to the highest bidder, they were able to accrue a reasonable sum of gil and favors; purchasing a shop with ample room for repair and crafting work near the docks of Limsa.
